Program used:
Flash Lite 2.0
Description:
This example was the final assignment for my Alternative Interface Design course from
the first semester of the Rich Media program. It was a group assignment and we had
create an informational handheld guide for some aspect of the city of Toronto. Our
group chose to focus on tourism, specifically the main landmarks and attractions of
Toronto like the CN Tower, the ROM, Ontario Place, Science Center and the Eaton
Center.
For this project, I was responsible for the photo gallery function and the
video player. The photo gallery uses the same functions and classes as a photo gallery
developed with Flash 8. The video player uses the 3GP file type which is specific to
mobile applications. This file type creates an very small file while keeping most of
the quality. The small file size is suited to the limited bandwidth and processor
speeds of today's cell phones. To play the video in Flash Lite, I used a video
object with the 3GP file embedded in it. The play, pause and stop methods work the
same as video in Flash 8.
This project taught me a lot about working on a complex application as a
group and also gave me experience working with video and audio on a mobile platform.
