Program used: Adobe Illustrator CS2

Description:

This piece was a poster assignment I did in my Adobe Illustrator class in second year. We had to create a poster that used a specific design style and also used the design style's name somewhere in the poster. I chose to use the cubist design style. The first thing I did was type out the name in the font I wanted and then using the trace outline feature, I broke up all the words into different pieces. I then coloured each section of pieces different colours and spread them out a little. I put the word intact in black behind the other pieces so that the word was still readable. I then took an image of a car that I had taken at the Detroit Auto Show, and starting cutting it up into different shaped and sized pieces like a jigsaw puzzle. I then put all the pieces back in their place and started to spread them out and move them in different directions to get the cubist effect. I again put the intact image behind so that you could still tell what it was. Finally, I added a "poster" effect to the whole image to give it a more stylized look. This effect also helped to create depth by making some of the shapes look like they were above the intact background image. I was surprised at how well it came out.
